Tomas Ortiz is a partner in Garrett & Tully's Pasadena office. Mr. Ortiz earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California School of Law in 1995 and both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California at Irvine in 1991.
Mr. Ortiz heads the firm's bankruptcy group. His bankruptcy practice focuses primarily on representing and consulting both title insurers and insureds in connection with bankruptcy issues and matters. He has represented both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy proceedings and has significant experience representing lenders as creditors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases.
Mr. Ortiz also has considerable experience litigating general title matters, both in and out of bankruptcy. His general practice also includes representing a wide array of clients in business and commercial matters, as well as defending attorneys and accountants in professional liability litigation.
Mr. Ortiz is actively involved in a number of local and regional business and professional community organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, American Bar Association, Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (Board Member), Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, California Escrow Association, Federal Bar Association, Financial Lawyers Conference, Latin Business Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association (Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Sections), Mexican American Bar Association, National Hispanic Bar Association, Professional Liability Underwriting Society and State Bar of California (Litigation Section).
